Sylvia Woods

Woods started her career in South Carolina with the South Carolina Land Resource Development.  After relocating to New York City, she worked as a manager with Western Union Financial Services in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.   Growing up as the seventh of 11 children of sharecroppers in rural South Carolina, she learned her parents’ lessons early in life; hard work, tenacity and faith are key ingredients for financial independence.  Woods took those lessons and left corporate America to launch a career in Real Estate.  

 Woods founded the successful Mount Vernon agency in 2008 with Gloria Smith, and has steadily grown the company over the past 13 years. She has acquired a wealth of experience in the real estate industry.  She has served as a broker for over for over 20 years.

 She currently holds several leadership positions within the Mount Vernon real estate community, serving as a member of the Assessment Board of Review, Architect Review Board and Sign and Appeal Board.

 Woods enjoys mentoring budding entrepreneurs. Passionate about empowering the next generation, she believes that self-empowerment leads to financial independence.  As such, she is committed to giving back in support of education and black-owned businesses.  She conducts workshops on financial empowerment and wealth-building through real estate.

Woods has a BS degree from Benedict College, in Columbia, South Carolina, and an MBA from the University of New Haven.  She’s actively involved in a variety of civic and professional organizations, including the Mt. Sinai Hospital Advisory Board for Multicultural and Community Affairs, Sylvia Woods Scholarship Foundation, Benefactor of the Bertha Brown Endowment. She’s also the regional vice president of the Benedict College National Alumni Association and a member of the Progressive Club of New York, Inc.  She supports the College Fund-UNCF, American Heart Association, and the March of Dimes. She is also a member of Grace Baptist Church of Westchester County where she worships with her husband Kenneth, president and CEO of Sylvia’s Restaurant of Harlem.
